A Grade 11 pupil from Jeppe High School for Boys died on Tuesday after a rugby match with Hoërskool Die Anker in Brakpan.
The school identified the pupil on its Facebook page as 16-year-old Kaiden Bowie.
"It is alleged the pupil was not feeling well after the match," said Gauteng education department spokesperson Steve Mabona.
