Gauteng police have taken in two people for questioning in connection with the killing of Warrick “DJ Warras” Stock.
The development was announced during a media briefing on Monday.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said detectives, acting on leads gathered over the past week, had moved on the two individuals early on Monday morning.
The duo was picked up at around 02:00 from a hostel in Soweto.
“We can confirm that Gauteng police, led by Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, have taken in two people for questioning in the DJ Warras case,” Mathe said.
“They are being questioned by our detectives and [they] will then provide us with an update on whether they will effect the necessary arrests.”
Stock’s assassination – believed to be linked to syndicates controlling hijacked buildings in Johannesburg’s inner city – sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, and National Police Commissioner General Fanie Masemola last week committed to a breakthrough by Monday.

Stock’s murder formed part of a detailed progress report on a string of violent crime investigations currently under way in the province, presented at Monday’s briefing.
Mathe also revealed a 32-year-old suspect linked to the mass shooting at a tavern in Saulsville, Pretoria, earlier this month, had been captured.

DJ Warras' eldest son Ethan, with his younger brothers at their dad's memorial service.
He was cornered at the Shell Ultra City near Polokwane, where he was allegedly found with an unlicensed firearm and 12 rounds of ammunition. Mathe said he was expected to face 12 counts of murder and 13 counts of attempted murder.
Another arrest was also made in a Tembisa double murder that saw a primary school principal and admin clerk killed, bringing the total number of accused before the court to three.
The latest suspect is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon.
Gauteng police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili said no arrests had yet been made in the Bekkersdal tavern massacre that left nine people dead and 10 wounded in the early hours of Sunday morning, however.
“A manhunt is under way to apprehend the suspects,” Muridili reiterated – adding that “investigations are ongoing”.
The shooting unfolded just before 01:00 at the KwaNoxolo tavern in Bekkersdal.

Police forensic crime scene management and Crime Intelligence officials examine the scene in Bekkersdal.
A group of about 12 heavily armed men travelling in a white kombi and silver sedan stormed in and opened fire on patrons before fleeing.
The gunmen continued shooting indiscriminately as they drove off.
Survivor Tshokolo Rampokanyo told News24 the attackers ordered patrons to lie down and hand over their cellphones.
“They threatened to shoot anyone who looked at their faces,” he said.
During the robbery, one of the gunmen struck him on the head with a firearm.
Police say the motive for the Bekkersdal attack remains unknown. Possible links to extortion and protection rackets targeting West Rand liquor outlets are, however, being probed.
