News24 | Viral phone snatcher tracked down, arrested in Hillbrow

A man who was seen in a viral video snatching a woman’s phone while she entered a restaurant in Pretoria has been arrested.

Johannesburg Metro Police Department spokesperson Xolani Fihla told News24 that they had arrested the man in Hillbrow on Tuesday morning.

“We can confirm that our tactical response unit officers have arrested a male suspect who is linked to phone snatching incidents. This is after a video went viral of a lady whose phone was snatched,” Fihla said.

His arrest follows days of growing pressure from social media users, who united in support of the victim and successfully identified him.
