The Class of 2025 is anxiously awaiting the official release of their examination results, which will determine the course of their futures. Candidates will learn their fate this week after sitting for the month-long final exam period between October and November last year.

When will matric results be published?

The national and provincial results will be announced on Monday, 12 January, with individual results released to the media and available at schools on Tuesday, 13 January. Accredited publications, including News24, will publish results online and in print.

Individual matric results for Independent Examinations Board (IEB) pupils will be available online on News24 from 00:01 on 13 January, while National Senior Certificate (NSC) results will be published online from 06:00 on the same day.

Where and how can I access my matric results?

To access your results online, you can type your examination number into News24’s matric results hub. Personal details, such as names, surnames, or identity numbers, will not be included.

It’s important to note that the portal will only display the results of individuals who agreed to have their results published in the media, in compliance with the Protection of Personal Information (POPI) Act.

Those who did not opt in will need to contact their school or provincial education department to obtain their results.

Results may also be omitted due to technical reasons.

What if I’m not happy with my matric results?

If you’re not satisfied with your results, you can apply to have your exam scripts remarked or rechecked at a fee. Remarking services can be requested at your school, local district office, or online. Candidates will only have until 27 January to submit applications for remarking or rechecking.

Meanwhile, if you want to improve your exam results, you can sit for the rewrite in May or June this year. The closing date to register for this is 6 February. Be sure to check that you meet the stipulated criteria.

According to the Department of Basic Education, all NSC-related queries must be made within 30 days of the release of results. If your personal details need to be corrected on your statement of results, this must be reported to the DBE before 20 February.

What other options do I have if I did not pass?

In addition to rewriting your subjects in June, there are other avenues for you to pursue. You can enrol as a part-time or full-time candidate, depending on your age and the number of subjects you need to repeat.

Alternatively, you could consider vocational education and training at a Further Educational and Training (FET) college.
