Cape Town residents faced a deluge as heavy rain and strong winds wreaked havoc, leaving homes flooded and lives disrupted on Thursday.

Caroline Dietrich, 81, from The Vlak informal settlement in Kraaifontein, Cape Town, said her bed got soaked after her roof began leaking on Thursday night.

"The rain started on Tuesday night, but it wasn't too bad because we could sleep," she said.
