The South African Weather Service issued a warning of severe thudnerstorms in Limpopo and Mpumalanga.

Wet conditions are expected in most parts of the country, with severe thunderstorm warnings issued for Limpopo and Mpumalanga, according to the South African Weather Service (SAWS).

Impact-based warnings

Yellow Level 1: Severe thunderstorms are expected over south-central Limpopo and the eastern Highveld of Mpumalanga, leading to localised damage to infrastructure and short-term disruptions to municipal services. Heavy downpours and strong winds could cause challenges.

In the SAWS’ colour-coded weather warning system, yellow indicates a moderate risk of impact that requires caution and awareness, while orange indicates that higher-risk impact is expected, requiring increased attention and preparation.

The SAWS uses the numbers to indicate the likelihood of weather-based impacts occurring. Levels 2 and 6 are high, and Level 4 is low.

Eastern half of the Eastern Cape: Morning fog in the extreme east will lead to cloudy conditions south of the escarpment, with light rain expected (30% chance). Partly cloudy and cool weather in the rest of the province.

Coastal winds will change throughout the day, ranging from moderate to fresh south-westerly to south-easterly.
