The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued warnings across several provinces, including parts of KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, the North West, Free State, northern Eastern Cape, eastern Northern Cape and Mpumalanga, where excessive lightning, strong winds and hail can be expected. Milder weather with some showers is forecast for parts of the Western Cape.
Impact-based warnings
Orange Level 5 warning: Severe thunderstorms over most of KwaZulu-Natal (excluding the south-east coast) may cause flooding of roads, settlements, and low-lying bridges/areas. Expect excessive lightning, strong damaging winds, and hail.
Yellow Level 2 warning: Severe thunderstorms in Gauteng, the North West, Free State, northern Eastern Cape, eastern Northern Cape, south-eastern KwaZulu-Natal, and parts of Mpumalanga. These storms can lead to localised flooding, strong winds, and hail.
