Eastern Cape police have launched a manhunt for a group of gunmen who abducted a 41-year-old woman outside her workplace in Deal Party in Gqeberha on Friday.

According to police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, the kidnapping occurred at approximately 17:45 on Old Grahamstown Road.

Rajathi Gnanaraj was with her husband in their vehicle when armed suspects ambushed them, she said.

"Approximately seven armed suspects approached their vehicle, and the victim did not open her vehicle door. [That] is when the suspects smashed the window.

"The suspects pulled the victim from her vehicle into a silver Corolla and drove off in the direction of New Brighton," Janse van Rensburg said.
