Answering a question that is on the lips of many, popular singer, record label boss and entrepreneur, Dapo Oyebanji, aka D’banj, has said that he will still work with former partner and collaborator, Don Jazzy.
Speaking in an interview with Saturday Beats, he said, “The trailer of my album last year had Don Jazzy in it. We know that the people want that (us to work together) and we know we are going to give the people that. But, it is important to do it at the right time. And, there’s no other better time than now. You are going to see a lot, not just from Nigeria, but globally. And it’s not just about Mo’hits reunion, but celebrating afrobeats as well.”
He also stated that he recently signed Nasboi as an ambassador of the CREAM platform because the comedian and singer embodied similar values.
He said, “Nasboi, he’s a typical example of what the platform stands for. He started as a musician and has been singing since 2008, but he never had a chance. So, he evolved and became a comedian and skit maker. He made a name for himself through that and from there, he could go back to his dreams. And, he did all that independently. That’s what CREAM platform stands for. You can come to the platform, mingle within the community, harness your talents and discover yourself.
“As for Berri Tiga, he is a product of the platform. When he uploaded his song on the platform many years ago, he was about 17 years old. But look at him today, he’s one of our biggest testimonies.”
Speaking on his new experience as a tech entrepreneur, D’banj said, “It has been very tough. I won’t lie to you.I know that I have always loved the business side of things and I have actively tried to integrate it into my work. Even music itself is a business, but most people don’t realise that. One thing is certain—music can get you into the room, but what you do once you’re there is entirely up to you. That’s why I’ve been involved in both the creative and business aspects of the industry.
“However, working as a tech entrepreneur in today’s world has not been easy. But I’m grateful that this is the path God has led me on, and I’m glad my vision remains clear. My goal has always been to create a platform that is accessible to everyone.
“Celebrating 21 years in the industry, I understand the challenges I faced and the difficulties I went through. If I can create something that makes it easier for the next generation—reducing their struggles while helping them protect themselves—then I will. That’s exactly what the CREAM platform is all about.
“To achieve this, I had to go back to school, build a strong tech team, and find great partners—because collaboration is the new competition. I didn’t get here alone; I have incredible partners that I’ve been working with along the way.”
D’banj also noted that he would also be doing a lot of collaboration in terms of his music. He said, “I am so grateful to my fans that they wholeheartedly accepted my last album. The plan is to drop a deluxe version of that album. I have had requests from so many people to do remixes of my old songs in new albums. I will also pick some of those talents from Cream Platform.”
