A social media personality and entrepreneur, Christiana Kayode, popularly known as Berbiedoll, has opened up about the advantages and disadvantages of being in the public eye.
Kayode, who is the CEO of Berbie Beauty Line, said, “Being a public figure comes with significant benefits, including career growth, business opportunities, and a platform to influence societal change. Being in the public eye has helped me to build and promote a strong personal brand.”
She also emphasised the power of networking, stating that increased visibility opens doors to meaningful connections with other influential people.
Berbiedoll also pointed to the downsides of fame, particularly for women, saying, “As a woman, I face intense scrutiny from the media and the public, which can lead to stress and anxiety. There is always pressure to conform to societal expectations regarding appearance and behavior. There are also issues such as loss of privacy and frequent criticism, particularly on social media.”
Describing cyberbullying as a serious problem with lasting effects on victims, she urged “victims” to document incidents, avoid engaging with bullies, report abuse using platform tools, and seek support from trusted individuals.
“It’s important to have a strong support system. Remember, you’re not alone, and there are resources available to help you,” she added.
