Ayokunle & The Ark, a gospel band led by Ayokunle Shofu, has unveiled a new nine-track album titled ‘Unspeakable’, marking what the band describes as “a significant return to music after a lengthy hiatus.”
In a statement shared with Saturday Beats, Shofu explained that the album reflects a deeply personal spiritual journey.
He said, “I cannot say so much about something that is ‘unspeakable’. It is beyond words for me; not just because of the quality of the music and lyrical lushness, but because of the lessons God taught me along the journey.”
He added that the album invites listeners to meditate on “the encounter of the love of the Father,” noting that its message goes far beyond mere musical expression.
Creatively, Shofu described the album as a “total package,” featuring more indigenous musical elements than any of his previous works. The album also experiments with Spanish on one track, adding to its sonic diversity. “There is something for everyone on the album. You need to experience it,” he said.
Explaining the inspiration behind the album’s title, he said it reflects realities that transcend human language. “The wonders of the cross, the power in the blood, practical Christian living, they are beyond words. The successful delivery of this project is beyond words too,” he noted.
Shofu admitted that financing the project posed a significant challenge. “It took some time for me to decide on the friends I featured, and I had to trust God all through the process for financial resources. It cost quite a lot,” he revealed.
The statement added that as part of the album rollout, the band will hold a live concert on March 22, 2026, in Ikeja, Lagos.
